Stocks to Watch Tomorrow 01/19

Techs were taken to the shed today. Was Jim Cramer's call that tech is dead until August correct? While I think Cramer is a smart guy (outside his "100-picks in a minute" snake oil) I think making this broad of a call could prove wrong this year. Where is the fast oil money going to go? What if retail investors comes back big in 07? - Where is all this money going to go? It will likely go into tech. I'd be hunting for opportunities.

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) down 6.2% today after blowing out the number. They are clearly sand-bagging the number big time and Mac sales are growing at a rapid pace despite the "miss". Dip buyers will likely show up here soon.

IBM (NYSE: IBM) reports a solid quarter but it wasn't enough to keep the stock going. The stock is getting a 5.5% haircut after-hours.

Hoku Scientific, Inc. (Nasdaq: HOKU) was today's you-really-don't-know-what-the-hell-you-are-buying-but-the-news-sure-sounds-good-and-I-like-the-name micro cap play. The stock zoomed 123% on a $370M deal with Sanyo. This stock has been a complete disappointment since its IPO in 2005 its nice to see the company is finally doing something, but I still think this stock has a trust issue and new shorts are likely licking their chops on today's move.

JDS Uniphase Corp. (Nasdaq: JDSU) is making a big 10% move after-hours after raising revenue guidance. This stock has been dead money for some time.

A lot of big-boys are reporting tomorrow before the open: Citigroup (NYSE: C), General Electric (NYSE: GE), Motorola (NYSE: MOT) and Schlumberger (NYSE: SLB).

Stocks to Watch Tomorrow 01/18

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) reported a blow out quarter after the close. EPS was $1.14, versus the consensus of $0.78 and revenue was $7.1 billion versus the consensus of $6.42 billion. After an initial pop (post-halt) the stock is now below the close. Sceptics may point at the lower Mac numbers and guidance that is below the street ($0.54-$0.56, versus the consensus of $0.60). I say the iPod numbers were huge and will lead to higher Mac numbers and guidance was conservative (the company guided Q1 to $0.70-$0.73 and reported $1.14!). The stock looks to have big psychological resistance at $100.

Star Scientific Inc. (Nasdaq: STSI) was today's everyone-knows-we-can-move-this-little-piece-of-crap-on-any-decent-news micro cap stock of note. The company disclosed in an 8-K filing that the presiding judge in its patent infringement lawsuit against RJ Reynolds Tobacco notified the company that decisions on three pending summary judgment motions will be available on the Court's website on Friday, January 19th. The stock closed 30% higher.

IBM (NYSE: IBM) is reporting earnings after the close tomorrow and will be the one to watch. Also look for Continental Air (NYSE: CAL), Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HOG) and Merrill Lynch (NYSE: MER) (all before the open)

The big loser today was Rackable Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: RACK), down an astonishing 38% after warning on earnings. We will have to be on the look-out for a dead-cat bounce here.

Stocks to Watch Tomorrow 01/17

Earnings season is kicking into high gear again: Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is the big one tomorrow, but here are some others to watch AMR Corp (NYSE: AMR), Charles Schwab (Nasdaq: SCHW), JP Morgan (NYSE: JPM) and Lam Research (Nasdaq: LRCX).

Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) reported solid numbers and guidance after the close but the stock is taking it on the chin to the tune of 3% after-hours. Margins weren't the best and the company ran-up ahead of the results.

Highway Holdings Ltd. (Nasdaq: HIHO) was today's It-doesn't-matter-what-it-does-they-are-based-in-China micro-cap winner. The stock jumped 22% on news of US contract, althought no terms were announced (when the press release costs more than the contract is worth I guess you don't have to disclose it). HIHO has made it on our list before.

Rackable Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: RACK) is getting "racked"after-hours after warning for EPS. OUCH! Stock down 24%

Telik Inc. (Nasdaq: TELK) is getting a boost on the Icahn-effect after-hours. Icahn raised his stake from 1.5 million shares to 5.2 million shares (9.92%). NOTE: TELK was hammered in late December after reporting disappointing late-stage trial data.

Stocks to Watch Tomorrow 01/11

It was a big day for the I-can-mark-a-stock-up-in-a-flash-and-steal-your-money boys today, but unlike what we've seen in prior days the companies had news to hype: Ocean Bio-Chem Inc. (Nasdaq: OBCI) climbed 179% after the company announced increased distribution through Wal-Mart (now any hillbilly looking for a new fuel additive can find it at Wal-Mart. Yee Haw!); Cleveland Biolabs, Inc. (Nasdaq: CBLI) climbed 47.6% on a "breakthrough" for stem cell research (we've only heard that thirty seven THOUSAND times before); Natural Health Trends Corp. (Nasdaq: BHIP) jumped 45% after the company named Gernot Senke COO (who the hell is that?); Innodata Isogen Inc. (Nasdaq: INOD) rallied 36.6% after the company said it inked $9 million in new contracts (isn't that their job?)

India-based IT company Infosys Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: INFY) will be reporting results before the open and will be one to watch.

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is on pace to hit $100 faster then we thought, +$4.79 today. Maybe we will see it tomorrow. Is CNBC getting the widget ready?

US Airways (NYSE: LCC) is buying Delta Air Lines (Nasdaq: DALRQ) - no wait a minute, Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWACQ) and Delta are in talks - no its Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) and Northwest that are merging - no I mean UAL Corp (Nasdaq: UAUA) and Continental. WOW! How about we pick two captains like schoolyard football and let them pick their teams. Once the two teams are formed let's make bets on who will fall into bankruptcy first.

Stocks to Watch Tomorrow 01/10

Major biotech company Genentech Inc. (NYSE: DNA) is on deck to report earnings tomorrow.

Futuremedia PLC (Nasdaq: FMDAD) was today's I-bet-I-can-create-a-pump-and-dump-in-this-little-piece-of-shit hedge fund game. The stock climbed 85% after announcing it subsidiary will provide their web-based learning platform to some Swedish bank.

Escala Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ESCL) is going to the pink sheets tomorrow. The stock dropped 41% on the news today. Under normal conditions the stock would drop further once sent to the pinks, but shorts may be covering which could support the stock a bit.

Apple Computer Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) climbed 8.3% after announcing their iPhone. The company also announced AppleTV. This stock is headed to $100 quickly.

Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) sunk 11% today after dismal guidance and job cuts. This may be a bounce candidate once things settle out.

Gap (NYSE: GPS) didn't do much today, but word is they are holding a board meeting today and may sell the company off piecemeal. The stock could get a small boost on an official announcement.

Stocks to Watch Tomorrow 12/29

Another completely dead day in the market.

We just heard that Bush will make January 2nd a federal holiday to honor President Ford. We haven't heard any word on whether the market will be opened or closed on Tuesday. The talking heads on TV said they may do a half a day.

The IPO we've been writing about recently, Fuwei Films Co., Ltd. (Nasdaq: FFHL), continues to find fans. The stock jumped nearly 35% today to $17.50. Not bad considering it was brought the the market at $8.28.

Apple Computer (Nasdaq: AAPL) gave the dip buyers another chance today after the FT rehashed the options scandal stuff (slow news day). Yeah, if Jobs is forced to leave the company the stock could drop $10-$15, but the chances of that happening are about 5%.

Microcap Point.360 (Nasdaq: PTSX) jumped 49% today and no it wasn't manipulated higher. The stock actually had legitimate news. Larger rival DG FastChannel (Nasdaq: DGIT) bought up 11.4% of the company from a hedge fund, paying up $3.25 per share in a negotiated deal dated 12/22 when the stock was at $2.40 in the open market that day. In a disclosure, DG FastChannel noted they entered a nondisclosure agreement with PTSX in August. This looks like a possible hostile takeover situation. One could speculate that DGIT and PTSX held talks but they couldn't come up with an agreement and now DGIT is trying to go around them. This may be hard. Chairman and CEO Haig Bagerdjian owns 27% of the company and Julia Stefanko, the ex-wife of former CEO Luke Stefanko, owns 17%.

Say it at so! Northfield Laboratories Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLD) finally had a up day after its blow-up last week. Has is hit a bottom? What about Sally Beauty (NYSE: SBH)? - up 2.6% today after a steady decline since negative news on the L'Oreal rights.

Encysive Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: ENCY) announced mid-day that the FDA finally said they will review the New Drug Application (NDA) for THELIN. Sounds like good new right? Wrong - the FDA gives the review a Class 2 resubmission status instead of the hoped for Class 1 resubmission and sets a PDUFA date of June 15. The stock drops 23.6% on the news. OUCH.

Stocks to Watch Tomorrow 12/28

Jolly Old Saint Nick kept the presents coming today. The Dow hit a new all-time high over 12,500!

The has-news-will-maniuplate micro cap bull market continued, making us a little cautious. When investors start playing into the greater fool game it is usually a sign of a short-term top. Sento Corp. (Nasdaq: SNTO) jumped 69% today ahead of results, Infosonics Corp. (Nasdaq: IFON) jumpted 44% today after partnering with LG. Nucryst Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: NCST) (+30%) and OraLabs Holding (Nasdaq: OLAB) (+37%) both jumped for no good reason. Another one we were watching, ZI Corp. (Nasdaq: ZICA), finally started seeing profit taking after its two-day meteoric rise.

Threshold Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: THLD) is moving 20% higher in after-hours action after announceing Phase 2 clinical trial of glufosfamide in combination with gemcitabine for the treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer. The company said they were "pleased with these encouraging top-line results" While investors don't seem to care, we did notice a note on saftey of the combo in the middle of the press release that could throw a wrench in things. The company said, "Preliminary analysis of the safety data in this Phase 2 glufosfamide and gemcitabine combination trial suggests the incidence of treatment-related nephrotoxicity may be slightly higher than what was observed in previous experience with either of these agents used individually."

See that snap-back in Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) today? Down nearly $5 early then closed in the green! I guess the big boys were making trades from the slopes after calls on their batphones from the rooks manning the desks. How about GOOG (Nasdaq: GOOG)? - plus $10.50! What up with Citigroup (NYSE: C)? - new 52-week high! Gotta love it!
